The UP Police turned Santa on
Christmas as they posted a series of tweets with the hashtag #EverydaySanta. One of the posts by the UP Police reads, "We promise to be your #EverydaySanta 365/24/7," asking people to approach them in case of a problem. Many Twitter users posted their problems with the hashtag #EverydaySanta and asked UP Police for help. While some asked the police to help them navigate through a traffic jam, a few users reported theft of their vehicles and phones through their posts.

They also posted a video compiling the deeds of police officers who helped spread smiles by visiting orphanages, adopting a girl child, and managing and conducting wedding ceremonies with the caption, "Your #EverydaySanta from across the state subtracting your sorrows & adding happiness in your lives #MerryChristmas." Rahul Srivastava, Public Relations Officer, DGP, UP, says, “We started this hashtag at midnight on Christmas and posted Xmas-related posts with a message about following rules. What does Santa do? He gives gifts and brings happiness to people. There are policemen too who take care of people and spread cheer. We compiled such deeds by cops in a video – like visiting orphanage and old-age homes and sponsoring a child’s education – and posted it. It was our way of saying that we are people’s everyday Santa and they can approach us when they need help.”

People tweeted their problems by tagging UP Police & using the #EverydaySanta hashtag, and police officials say they will try to resolve their problems as soon as possible

Srivastava adds, "We are glad that people could approach us with their problems through this hashtag. All through the day, people posted their regular traffic problems, thefts and crimes etc here on our handle with the hashtag and we responded accordingly. We will compile all these problems and resolve them as soon as possible. This will be our Christmas gift to the people."
